Maha: Raj Thackeray slams Election Commission, demands CEC's resignation, return to paper ballots

Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) In a blistering attack on the constitutional integrity of India's electoral machinery, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday launched a scathing critique against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, declaring that the Election Commission has been reduced to a puppet regime designed to secure an everlasting lease of power for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Weighing heavily on recent controversies surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and systemic electoral discrepancies, Thackeray accused the poll panel of orchestrating calculated administrative loopholes.
Employing a sharp satirical metaphor, he stated, "Saint Dnyaneshwar made a buffalo recite the Vedas; today, the rulers in power are making this 'Dnyanesh' (Gyanesh Kumar) recite whatever verses suit their political agenda."
Pointing towards internal dissent within the election panel, Thackeray demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, alleging deep-rooted bias and capitulation to political pressures.
Calling the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) a newly devised political weapon introduced to manipulate voter dynamics, MNS has demanded that the entire process be nullified, investigated independently, and executed afresh.
Expressing total distrust in Electronic Voting Machines, Thackeray urged all national and regional opposition parties to drop their differences and unite for a massive nationwide agitation to revert strictly to traditional paper ballots.
The MNS leader emphasized that only a return to paper ballots can expose the "truth of power" and restore genuine democratic accountability in the country.
