Rohit Pawar accuses Pune civic officials of high-handedness, demands action against errant officers

Pune, Oct 30 (UNI) NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar has accused Pune Municipal Corporation officials of acting in a high-handed manner while carrying out an alleged anti-encroachment drive against a woman running a small business in the city.
He alleged that the officials were acting under political pressure and intimidating the woman despite questions over the civic body's jurisdiction over the property.
In a strongly worded post on X, Pawar claimed that the land in question neither belonged to the municipal corporation nor fell within its jurisdiction, a fact that he said had also been acknowledged by the civic body itself.
Despite this, municipal officials allegedly arrived at the spot and initiated action by branding the property as an encroachment.
Pawar questioned the officials' conduct, alleging that they threatened to register a case against the woman for obstructing government work when she asked them to show the prior notice for the proposed action.
He said that officials were required to issue a notice before taking such action.
Highlighting the woman's difficult circumstances, Pawar said her husband was unwell and that she was running the business through her hard work.
He questioned the authority under which officials could take steps that would cause financial losses to her livelihood.
Describing the officials' behaviour as an example of administrative high-handedness, Pawar demanded that the Pune Municipal Commissioner take appropriate action against those responsible.
He also assured the woman of his support, stating that he would continue to pursue the matter until justice was delivered to her.
