Maha: Young tiger found dead in Chandrapur

Chandrapur, Oct 4 (UNI) A two-year-old tiger was found dead in a scrub forest at Bor Kinhi in the North Brahmapuri forest range of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, officials said today.
According to the Forest Department, local farmers heard tigers roaring in the forest throughout Saturday and alerted authorities.
A search operation was launched, during which a forest team discovered the tiger's carcass in dense bushes by evening.
Officials said injury marks indicating a struggle were found on the animal's body, while drag marks extended nearly 500 metres towards a farm in Patwari Group No. 262.
The rear portion of the carcass had been partially eaten, suggesting the presence of another tiger in the vicinity.
Forest personnel also spotted a second tiger near the site, triggering concern among residents of nearby villages.
Preliminary findings indicate that the tiger may have died during a territorial fight with another tiger.
However, the exact cause of death will be determined only after a postmortem examination, officials said.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Mahesh Gaikwad and Range Forest Officer Anup Kananmar visited the spot, supervised the inspection and collected evidence.
The Forest Department has prohibited unnecessary movement in the area and intensified surveillance as a precautionary measure.
