Odisha Governor urges People to explore domestic tourist destinations

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday urged people to explore tourist destinations within the country instead of travelling abroad, stressing that promoting domestic tourism would showcase India’s natural wealth while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Accompanied by First Lady Jayashree Kambhampati, the Governor visited Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in western Odisha and appreciated its natural beauty, rich biodiversity and potential to emerge as a major eco-tourism destination.
During the visit, the Governor toured the sanctuary and witnessed wildlife sightings. He also appreciated the visitor facilities, infrastructure development and conservation initiatives undertaken by the authorities to protect the sanctuary’s rich biodiversity.
The visit highlighted the tourism potential of western Odisha, where dense forests, diverse wildlife and the sprawling Hirakud reservoir offer significant opportunities for sustainable tourism and employment generation.
Spread across Sambalpur and Bargarh districts, Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its scenic landscapes and diverse wildlife. Its proximity to the Hirakud reservoir further enhances its appeal as a destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
The Governor also appreciated the role of local communities in tourism-related activities, noting that such initiatives could generate employment and strengthen local livelihoods while supporting wildlife conservation.
The Governor is scheduled to stay overnight at Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary.
