Odisha’s handlooms, handicrafts get fashion-driven market push

Bhubaneswar, Oct 11 (UNI) Odisha’s rural weavers and artisans are getting a wider market for their traditional products, with the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) showcasing indigenous handloom and handicrafts at Bhubaneswar Times Fashion Week 2026 to boost sales and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The two-day event featured ORMAS as its co-powering partner. Forty models, including Ollywood actress Sangeeta Shibani, showcased collections featuring Sambalpuri silk, Kataka Khandua, Maniabandha and Pattachitra silk sarees, GI-tagged Kotpad textiles, Dhalapathar weaving, Dhokra craft and fabric jewellery, including products under the One District One
Product (ODOP) initiative.
Fourteen women weavers from Khordha and Cuttack districts also walked the ramp in their own creations, sharing the platform with professional models and bringing rural craftsmanship to
a wider audience.
ORMAS set up two kiosks at the venue to display and sell handloom and handicraft products, attracting visitors and generating sales opportunities.
The collections will also be available at Subarnashree, the ORMAS retail outlet, and Subhadra Shakti Bazar.
Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister for Rural Development said such platforms connect weavers and artisans with new markets and customers while preserving Odisha’s craft heritage and strengthening rural livelihoods.
