Six STF personnel injured in attack by smugglers in Araria

Araria, Oct 11 (UNI) Altogether six personnel of the Special Task Force (STF), Patna, were injured when a team that had gone to apprehend smack smugglers was allegedly attacked by smugglers and their supporters in Araria district this afternoon.
The incident took place near Thalha Canal on the Narpatganj four-lane highway. Two STF vehicles were also severely damaged. Reports indicated that around 10 rounds were fired during the confrontation.
According to police, the STF team had detained two accused persons from Deviganj based on information provided by a smuggler arrested in Katihar. The team subsequently reached the Khaira Gadhiya four-lane highway in connection with the recovery operation.
During the operation, a group of people allegedly attacked the personnel with sticks, batons and iron rods following incitement by Umar Farooq, a representative of the Khaira Panchayat Mukhiya.
The injured personnel have been identified as Amarjeet Kumar Bhardwaj, Neeraj Kumar, Lokesh Kumar, Ram Julam Kumar, Manjesh Kumar and Rupesh Kumar. After receiving initial treatment, all six were referred to Araria Sadar Hospital for further medical care, where they are undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, police arrested three accused persons namely Dayanand Sah, Rajkumar Sah and Zulfiqar from the spot. However, the crowd managed to free and take away one of the smugglers.
Araria Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar said a detailed investigation was underway. He made it clear that those involved in the attack on the police team would not be spared.
