Odisha: Seven central range districts on alert ahead of Cyclone Arnab

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27 (UNI) Odisha Police have placed seven districts under its Central Range on high alert ahead of Cyclone Arnab, with forecasts of heavy rain, strong winds and waterlogging.
The districts are Cuttack Rural, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khordha, Nayagarh and Puri.
Central Range IG Dr Satyajit Naik has directed all district Superintendents of Police to take preventive measures in coordination with district administrations, ODRAF, Fire Services, OSDMA and other emergency agencies.
Police personnel have been deployed in vulnerable, low-lying, flood-prone and coastal areas. Four ODRAF teams have been stationed in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Khordha districts. Police are also assisting in evacuating vulnerable residents to cyclone shelters, prioritising the elderly, children, women, pregnant women and persons with disabilities.
Police will regulate traffic, clear fallen trees and waterlogged roads, and ensure access for emergency vehicles. Patrolling and night vigil will be intensified in evacuated areas to prevent theft, while district control rooms will remain operational round the clock.
A special coastal alert has been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri, with police tasked with protecting pilgrims and tourists and preventing people from venturing onto beaches or into the sea.
Police are coordinating with the Health, Electricity, Works and other departments for the swift restoration of essential services after the cyclone.
The public has been urged to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flooded roads and fallen power lines, and move to cyclone shelters when directed. Police have also warned against circulating rumours and unverified social media messages, cautioning that violators will face strict action.
People can seek emergency assistance through their nearest police station, district control room or by dialling 112.
