Odisha signs four MoUs in Singapore to boost clean energy research, innovation

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (UNI) Odisha has stepped up its efforts to strengthen its clean energy ecosystem by signing four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading international technology and energy companies at the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES) in Singapore, paving the way for greater research collaboration, technological innovation and development of next-generation energy solutions.
The agreements were signed during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026, held from October 27 to 29, with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, serving as the knowledge partner. The collaborations will focus on emerging areas such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), battery energy storage systems, smart grids, microgrids and green hydrogen.
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo welcomed the initiative of the Energy Department, underscoring the importance of international partnerships in accelerating the state's transition towards a sustainable and technology-driven energy sector.
"Odisha is committed to building a future-ready and sustainable energy sector through innovation, research and global collaboration," he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the MoUs would strengthen the state's engagement with leading international institutions and technology companies, enabling it to explore advanced solutions in energy storage, artificial intelligence, smart grids and green hydrogen.
Such partnerships, he added, would support Odisha's renewable energy ambitions, enhance energy security and help position the state as a major destination for clean energy investment and innovation.
The latest agreements build on the research partnership initiated in January 2023, when the Energy Department signed an MoU with NTU Singapore and IIT Bhubaneswar to promote research and development in renewable energy technologies.
The new agreements expand the scope of this collaboration by bringing international industry expertise into joint research and technology development, with a greater emphasis on emerging technologies and their practical applications in the energy sector.
Under the MoU with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Singapore, the partners will undertake joint research on digitalisation and AI-enabled workbench solutions aimed at strengthening smart governance and improving consumer services.
The agreement with Singapore-based VFlowTech will focus on advanced research in flow battery technologies to enhance grid resilience and strengthen energy storage capabilities.
Similarly, the MoU with PHENOGY, Singapore, will facilitate research into sodium-ion battery-based Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for grid applications.
The fourth agreement, signed with Finland-based DANFOSS Drives Oy, will focus on next-generation microgrids, smart grid integration and green hydrogen production.
On the sidelines of the summit, officials of Odisha's Energy Department also held discussions with Siow Huang Gan, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore, and representatives of Singapore's Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, including Augustin L., Permanent Secretary (Energy and Trade).
The Odisha delegation briefed the Singaporean representatives on the collaborative initiatives being undertaken by GRIDCO, IIT Bhubaneswar and NTU Singapore.
The four MoUs mark another step in Odisha's efforts to expand international cooperation in clean energy research, strengthen industry-academia partnerships and accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies.
Through these collaborations, the state aims to build research capabilities, explore emerging energy solutions and create a stronger foundation for its long-term renewable energy transition.
