Over 35.38 lakh Odisha farmers receive Rs 707.60 crore under PM-KISAN scheme

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (UNI) More than 35.38 lakh eligible farmers in Odisha on Friday received financial assistance amounting to Rs 707.60 crore under the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting farmers' livelihoods.
Under the latest instalment, Rs 2,000 each was directly credited to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. The nationwide disbursement was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Banaskantha in Gujarat.
At the national level, more than 9.34 crore farmers received financial assistance totalling Rs 18,690 crore under the latest instalment of the scheme.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the state-level PM-KISAN Utsav Diwas programme in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Minister K V Singh Deo, Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi and several MLAs were also present.
During the programme, Majhi interacted with farmers from different parts of Odisha and reiterated his government's commitment to their welfare, economic empowerment and the overall development of the agricultural sector.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stressed that his government was taking special measures to ensure that no eligible farmer was deprived of the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme.
He urged farmers who had not yet registered under the scheme to visit their nearest revenue or agriculture office and complete the registration process through the AgriStack portal to avail themselves of the benefits.
Highlighting the state government's parallel support initiatives, Majhi said Odisha was implementing the CM-KISAN scheme alongside the Centre-sponsored PM-KISAN programme to provide additional financial assistance to farmers.
Under CM-KISAN, small and marginal farmers receive annual financial assistance of Rs 4,000, while landless agricultural households are provided livelihood support of Rs 12,500. The scheme also extends benefits to urban farmers and cultivators belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Expressing concern over crop damage caused by heavy rainfall, floods and post-cyclone rains in several districts, the Chief Minister assured farmers that the state government stood firmly behind them during challenging times. He said the government remained committed to providing necessary support to farmers affected by natural calamities.
Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, addressing the programme, said the state government had successfully implemented several important initiatives, including PM-KISAN and CM-KISAN, aimed at ensuring the comprehensive welfare of farmers.
He further said that farmers affected by Cyclone Arnab would receive assistance at the earliest after completion of the damage assessment. Reiterating the government's commitment, Singh Deo said farmers would continue to receive support during natural disasters, including floods and cyclones.
The state government, he added, would continue working towards strengthening farmers' financial security and promoting sustainable agricultural development in Odisha.
