Over 1.62 Cr flood affected people provided morning and evening meals in Bihar

Patna, Sept 16 (UNI) More than 1.62 crore people affected by floods in Bihar have been provided with morning and evening meals so far, while 784 community kitchens are currently operating across the flood-affected areas, the Disaster Management Department said here today.
According to information shared by the department, 12 relief camps are currently functioning across the state, providing accommodation, food and medical facilities to 10,353 flood-affected people. So far, around 4.36 lakh polythene sheets, approximately 84,700 dry ration packets and nearly 1,400 food packets have been distributed among flood-affected people.
To facilitate evacuation and movement of the affected population, 1,156 government boats are being operated across various districts.
The department said 17,731 quintals of animal fodder have been distributed across the state to protect livestock in flood-affected areas.
According to information received from the Central Water Commission, several major rivers are flowing above the danger mark at different locations. The Gandak is above the danger level at Dumariaghat; the Kosi at Baltara and Kursela; the Budhi Gandak at Khagaria; the Ganga at Gandhi Ghat in Patna, Hathidah, Bhagalpur and Kahalgaon; the Punpun at Sripalpur; and the Kamla Balan at Jhanjharpur.
Around 49.72 lakh people in 575 in 15 districts have been affected by the floods. The affected districts are Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnia, Madhepura and Arwal.
However, water levels of some major rivers have either remained stable or declined at certain locations. The Kosi has remained stable near the Birpur Barrage, while water levels of the Son near the Indrapuri Barrage and the Gandak near the Valmikinagar Barrage have declined.
In view of the flood situation, 27 SDRF teams and 10 NDRF teams have been deployed across the state for swift relief and rescue operations.
The Bihar Meteorological Service Centre has forecast that very light to moderate rainfall is likely at several places across the state over the next two days.
The Disaster Management Department said it is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating relief and rescue operations.
