PM-KISAN payments to Haryana farmers cross Rs 8,200 crore

Bhiwani, Oct 30 (UNI) PM-KISAN transfers to Haryana farmers crossed Rs 8,200 crore on Friday after a Rs 324.75 crore payment to about 16.23 lakh farmer families, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said.
The 24th instalment took cumulative disbursements in the state to Rs 8,206.36 crore.
The latest payment included Rs 24.20 crore for about 1.21 lakh farmer families in Bhiwani, he said.
Each eligible family receives Rs 2,000 per instalment under the scheme, which provides annual income support of Rs 6,000 through three direct bank transfers.
Saini addressed farmers in Bhiwani as Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the instalment from Banaskantha in Gujarat.
The national programme, covering more than 9.34 crore farmer families, was shown live at the gathering.
The chief minister said the assistance helped farmers buy seeds and fertilisers and pay for ploughing before crop sales generated income.
Small and marginal farmers, who account for more than 86% of the country’s cultivators, often face pressure to borrow at high interest rates to meet these upfront expenses, he said.
“Along with financial assistance, farmers should get quality fertiliser and seeds, water, electricity, insurance, fair prices, good markets and new technology,” Saini said.
On crop prices, he said Haryana was procuring 24 crops at minimum support prices.
Procurement payments totalling Rs 1.90 lakh crore had reached the accounts of 12 lakh farmers over the past 13 seasons, he added. Sugarcane growers will receive Rs 430 per quintal in the current crushing season, an increase of Rs 15 from the previous rate.
The price for the following season has been fixed at Rs 450 per quintal, Saini said.
For fruit and vegetable growers, he said 49,000 farmers had received Rs 282 crore under the Bhavantar Bharpai scheme, which provides price protection for 21 horticultural crops.
Farmers had separately received Rs 16,160 crore through crop insurance and compensation for crop damage over the past 12 years, he said.
The union Cabinet has approved continuation of PM-KISAN from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with an outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore.
Saini said nearly one in four beneficiaries was a woman, with women farmers receiving more than Rs 1.06 lakh crore nationwide.
On natural farming, he distinguished between registration and adoption.
Nearly two lakh farmers had registered three lakh acres, while 23,930 farmers had adopted the practice on 44,000 acres, he said.
More than 12,000 farmers had received training at centres in Kurukshetra, Jind, Sirsa and Karnal.
Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana, who also addressed the gathering, encouraged cultivators to adopt natural farming.
Saini said 1,95,653 solar pumps had been installed under PM-KUSUM with a 75% subsidy to support solar-powered irrigation. He also outlined a value-chain partnership model covering seeds, processing, packaging, branding and marketing, saying farmers needed reliable market access and opportunities to build brands around their produce.
Technology would increasingly help cultivators identify crop diseases, assess soil requirements and decide when to irrigate, he said, urging farmers to conserve water and improve soil health. “The biggest benefit of AI will reach fields and farmers,” Saini said.
