Police uncover illegal Bangladeshi network in Maharashtra

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) Authorities have apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals, including six women, from various locations across Mumbai and Pune for residing in India without valid documentation, police said on Saturday.
The operation began earlier this week when MIDC police arrested Bayajid Khan (24) from Palghar. Investigations revealed Khan had entered India illegally via Guwahati, Assam, and was residing in Andheri western suburb. During interrogation, Khan admitted to facilitating accommodation and employment for six Bangladeshi women in Pune and Mumbai.
Based on Khan's information, police subsequently detained five women from Pune and one from Mumbai. Authorities are also registering a case against a Pune resident who allegedly rented accommodation to the women. The detained women were employed in beauty parlors and domestic work.
Police noted the group utilized a banned communication application to contact relatives in Bangladesh. The arrested individuals include Bayajid Shaikh (24), Nasrin Begam (38), Rojina Akhtar (39), Kakoli Akhtar (25), Roma Begam (31), Pakhi Hussain (25), and Kohinoor Akhtar (26). All seven have been remanded in judicial custody.
Investigators identified Shaikh as a key figure in transporting Bangladeshi women to Indian cities without legal documentation. Broader enforcement statistics reveal authorities have registered 373 FIRs against Bangladeshi nationals since January, resulting in 589 arrests, 532 deportations, and 237 convictions.
