Politicos, Businessmen meet Sharad Pawar but no sign of any political realignment

Mumbai, Nov 6 (UNI) Top politicians and industrialist Gautam Adani met NCP founder Sharad Pawar at Breach Candy hospital, sparking off political speculation, but chances of a political realignment involving Sharad Pawar seem very unlikely, sources said here on Friday.
After Sharad Pawar was admitted to Breach Candy hospital in South Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a telephone call to the NCP founder and inquired about his health on Thursday. Modi also advised him to take rest and take care of his health.
Modi’s telephone call, the meeting between Praful Patel on Thursday and industrialist Gautam Adani visiting him on Friday kicked off intense speculation in political circles, but no conclusive theory has emerged so far.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi also called up Sharad Pawar and inquired about his health.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also called Sharad Pawar and inquired about his health and the party’s Rajya Sabha MP as well as chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut also was at Breach Candy hospital.
Other politicians who met Sharad Pawar on Friday include BJP MLA Rana Jagjit Singh Patil and senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat.
Sources said that on Thursday, the Sunetra Ajit Pawar-led NCP’s national working president Praful Patel met Sharad Pawar. This meeting took place after Sunetra Ajit Pawar-led NCP leaders including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse-Patil, Dhananjay Munde and Hasan Mushrif went to Delhi and met union Home Minister Amit Shah.
It is known that Sharad Pawar directly asked Praful Patel about the exact purpose behind visiting union Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
Later, a video of the meeting between Praful Patel and Sharad Pawar surfaced, where Sharad Pawar is heard saying, “We will sit together after the 10th”.
This statement sparked another round of political speculation about what exactly is likely to be discussed between the two leaders after November 10.
Yet, Sunetra Ajit Pawar-led NCP working president Praful Patel clarified that no political discussions took place during his meeting with Sharad Pawar at Breach Candy hospital.
However, there is no conclusive consensus about whether their discussion after November 10 will be limited to a goodwill meeting or something politically significant.
There has been some speculation that there could be a merger of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and the Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar-led NCP, but once again, no convincing theory has emerged so far.
On the contrary, Uhhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut actually issued a statement on Friday that there is absolutely no chance of Sharad Pawar joining the BJP-led NDA.
Later on Friday, Sunetra Ajit Pawar-led NCP leader Sunil Tatkare told media persons that the late Ajit Pawar had plans to merge his NCP with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP on February 12, 2026.
The Sharad Pawar-led NCP’ Maharashtra state president Shashikant Shinde confirmed what Sunil Tatkare said adding that the late Ajit Pawar held a meeting in Baramati to take the NCP merger process forward.
Yet, there is nothing new in any of these statements, since these facts were already well known widely in political circles.
As things stand, politicians across parties seem to agree that political speculation is expected to continue at least until Sharad Pawar is discharged from Breach Candy hospital.
