Priyank Kharge invokes Purandaradasa, Sarvajna to hit back at Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, Oct 30 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Friday took an indirect swipe at union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, invoking the verses of saint-poets Purandaradasa and Sarvajna in an apparent rebuttal to the latter's allegations against AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and his son.
In a post on X, Priyank Kharge quoted a verse by Purandaradasa, questioning whether bitterness could be erased by showering honey-like rain on neem seeds, even after building a cartload of jaggery around them.
Drawing a parallel with his own upbringing, the Minister said the culture and values instilled by his elders governed the limits of his speech.
Without naming Kumaraswamy, he referred to a leader allegedly unwilling to relinquish power even when his father was hospitalised, shifting constituencies, abandoning places where he had earlier sought public support and betraying the trust of his own brother and those who had supported him.
He also used the expression 'Kisubayee Dasa', suggesting that the more his political opponent spoke, the more relevant Purandaradasa's composition became.
Taking the attack further, Priyank Kharge quoted another verse by Sarvajna, conveying that it was futile to argue with a fool, in an apparent reference to Kumaraswamy.
The remarks came against the backdrop of Kumaraswamy's allegations that Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyank Kharge had conspired to damage the political image of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah through a purported sting operation.
Kumaraswamy had alleged that the Kharge family was pursuing an old political grudge against Siddaramaiah, whom he claimed was responsible for Mallikarjun Kharge missing out on the Chief Minister's post in the past.
"Minister Priyank Kharge's real intention is not to finish Kumaraswamy, but to ruin Siddaramaiah's image. Weaving this case in Kumaraswamy's name and finally trapping Siddaramaiah himself is the internal conspiracy hatched by the Kharge family along with the present CM (DK Shivakumar)," Kumaraswamy had alleged.
The exchange marks a fresh escalation in the political war of words between the Congress and JD(S) leadership in Karnataka.
