Punjab Speaker Sandhwan returns after overseas tour, says diaspora engagement to remain priority

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has returned to the state after an international tour during which he attended the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in South Africa and held meetings with Punjabi and Sikh diaspora communities in several countries, his office said on Wednesday.
The tour included engagements in Germany, Malaysia, South Africa and Canada, with discussions focusing on investment and employment opportunities in Punjab, industrial and trade cooperation, international flight connectivity and greater participation of the Punjabi diaspora in the state’s development. Sandhwan also studied parliamentary systems, democratic frameworks and legislative practices during the visit.
“Inspired by this great ideology, the sons and daughters of Punjab are making their mark in every corner of the world today through hard work, talent and passion. Wherever a Punjabi settles, they carry our language, culture, heritage and values of unity with them,” Sandhwan said, invoking the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
During his visit to Malaysia, Sandhwan met Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Deputy Chief Minister Jagdeep Singh Deo and discussed issues concerning the Punjabi community and possibilities for cooperation. In South Africa, he participated in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference and interacted with delegates on democratic principles, parliamentary structures and international cooperation.
“The Punjabi community living abroad is an invaluable part of our heritage and culture,” Sandhwan said. “I have returned to my homeland to utilise the experiences, ideas and strategic contacts gained during this visit for the ultimate benefit of Punjab.”
Sandhwan said his focus would be on keeping Punjab’s voice strong overseas, maintaining close ties with the diaspora and using international contacts and experiences to contribute to development and prosperity in the state.
