Punjab: Two accused in money exchange robbery nabbed after encounter

Hoshiarpur, June 28 (UNI) The district police today arrested two people, including a dreaded criminal, after an encounter at village Barian Kalan in connection with a recent robbery at a money exchange shop in Bham village under Chabbewal police station limits, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said.
Malik said the police had earlier arrested three accused — Hardeep, Harpreet and Jaswinder Singh — in connection with the robbery. During their interrogation, two more accused were identified as Daljit Singh alias Dally of village Sadiq under Shahkot police station in Jalandhar, and Jaswinder Singh, of village Narur under Rawalpindi police station in Kapurthala district.
Based on human and technical intelligence, police teams had cordoned off the area and were conducting patrols, Malik said.
During the operation, a police party, led by the Chabbewal SHO and the in-charge of the CIA staff, confronted the accused at Barian Kalan village while they were travelling on a motorcycle.
“When the police party signalled them to stop, they refused to comply and instead opened fire at the police,” Malik said, adding that the police retaliated and fired four to five rounds.
In the exchange of fire, Daljit Singh sustained a gunshot injury to his foot and was referred to the Government hospital in Hoshiarpur. Jaswinder Singh was arrested on the spot.
