Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests railway engineer for allegedly taking Rs 40,000 bribe

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested a Northern Railway senior section engineer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 to implement a court order directing deductions from an employee's salary.
The accused, identified as Pankaj Bhardwaj, was arrested following a complaint from Hardeep Singh, a resident of Ferozepur.
According to the bureau, the complainant had obtained a court order directing the railway authorities to deduct one-third of employee Amit Kumar's salary towards repayment of a personal loan.
The engineer allegedly demanded Rs 40,000 to implement the order.
"The accused was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses," a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said.
The bureau said the complainant approached its Ferozepur range after refusing to pay the alleged bribe.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ferozepur. Further investigation is underway.
