Rahul Deshpande pays tribute to Nana Patekar, recalls close family bond

Pune, Oct 8 (UNI) Noted singer Rahul Deshpande on Thursday paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, recalling his close association with the actor and describing him as a family member, friend and guide.
“It is difficult to speak about Nana in the past tense. For me, he was never just someone I deeply admired; he was family,” Deshpande said in his tribute.
Recalling Patekar's long association with his family, Deshpande said the actor had immense affection and respect for his grandfather and had extended the same affection to him.
He was always the younger brother he could encourage, correct, protect and stand by. I knew that whenever I needed him, he was there, he said.
Deshpande also recalled Patekar's association with Vasantotsav, a music festival. He said when he had spoken about taking the festival to the national stage, Patekar immediately suggested taking it to the international level.
He immersed himself in the smallest details. Vasantotsav was never merely a music festival for him; it was a family occasion, and he took responsibility for it like the head of a family, Deshpande said.
He also recalled Patekar's understanding of music, saying the actor had a sharp ear and could offer perceptive observations on ghazals, natyasangeet and ragas.
Deshpande said the biggest lesson he learnt from Patekar was not related to music but to life. UNI SP AAB
