Remarks directed at CM Vijay linking to Karur stampede : Arrested Vellore DMK councillor gets bail

Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) A court in Chennai late on Wednesday night granted bail to Teeta Saravanan, the Opposition DMK Corporation Ward Councillor in Vellore district, who was arrested for his controversial remarks that "we should have finished him in Karur itself", which was directed at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK Founder Vijay linking to the Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives.
Saravanan, a Vellore Corporation councillor and a staunch supporter of former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, allegedly made the remarks during a protest by the DMK late on Monday night when the Ex-Minister was brought to Puzhal Central Prison following his arrest in the private school recognition bribery case.
"If we had finished him (Vijay) off in Karur itself that day itself, we wouldn't be in this situation (Anbil arrest) today", he was seen telling the former Minister, who was seated in the police escort van and the video went viral on the social media.
Following this Puzhal police registered a case against him under four sections including Sec 192 (wanton provocation with intent to case a riot), 296 (b) (obscene acts and songs), 353(1) (statements conducting to public mischief) snd 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BharatiyaNyaya Samhita.
After the case was registered, Saravanan reportedly went into hiding. Police eventually traced him to a house of DMK functionary Prem in Villupuram district and arrested him. Prem was also taken into custody for allegedly harbouring him.
When his bail plea was taken up for hearing, Saravanan was produced before Judicial Magistrate Jayshankar at the Ambattur court complex, as the Madhavaram Magistrate was on leave. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge granted him bail.
