Resolve OU hostel issues, allow Ganesh immersion at Hussain Sagar: T’gana BJP President

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) BJP Telangana State president N Ramchander Rao on Monday demanded that the state government immediately resolve the hostel accommodation problems faced by students of Osmania University and ensure that Ganesh idol immersion is allowed at Hussain Sagar as per tradition.
Speaking to media persons after visiting Ganesh mandaps on the Osmania University campus and offering prayers, Mr Rao said the university's students were celebrating the Navratri festival with devotion and cultural fervour.
He visited his former hostels, including 'E' Hostel and Old PG Hostel, and appreciated the achievements of research scholars from the Old PG Hostel.
He expressed concern over the relocation of students from 'E' Hostel to 'C' Hostel without adequate alternative arrangements, and demanded immediate steps to address their difficulties. He also alleged that the Rs 1,000 crore announced by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for OU development had not been released and urged the government to make the funds available at the earliest.
Mr Rao called for construction of modern hostels in place of dilapidated buildings and urgent repairs to existing hostel infrastructure. Osmania University currently has 22 hostels and 15 messes under its hostel administration.
On Ganesh immersion, the BJP state president said Hussain Sagar had traditionally been associated with Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad and demanded that the government provide all necessary facilities and security arrangements for the process. He said the BJP supported the demands of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi.
He urged the government to coordinate with elected representatives, police and other departments and make arrangements for the smooth conduct of the immersion. His remarks come amid continuing differences over the arrangements and locations for the city's major Ganesh immersion scheduled for September 25.
