Rs 5,230 crore assistance to Himachal farmers through PM-Kisan scheme: Bindal

Shimla, Oct 30 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajiv Bindal on Friday said farmers in the state had received financial assistance of approximately Rs 5,230 crore through 24 instalments of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the initiative.
Bindal said around 11 lakh farmers in Himachal Pradesh had received Rs 220 crore under the 24th instalment of the scheme, with Rs 2,000 transferred directly to the bank accounts of each eligible beneficiary.
He said the financial assistance reflected the Centre's commitment to the welfare and economic empowerment of farmers, particularly small and marginal cultivators.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each, directly into their bank accounts. With the release of the 24th instalment, each beneficiary would have received a cumulative assistance of Rs 48,000 under the scheme, he said.
Bindal said Himachal Pradesh was predominantly an agriculture- and horticulture-based state, where a large number of farmers depended on small landholdings and worked under difficult geographical conditions.
The assistance was useful in meeting agricultural expenses, including the purchase of fertilisers, seeds and other essential inputs, he added.
He said the provision of annual financial assistance to farmers over the past eight years reflected the Prime Minister's commitment to their welfare and had strengthened the mechanism of direct financial transfers to beneficiaries.
Targeting the Congress, the BJP leader alleged that while its leaders were making remarks against Prime Minister Modi, the latter was working continuously for the welfare and economic empowerment of poor farmers across the country.
He urged Congress leaders to focus on farmers' welfare instead of political rhetoric and play a constructive role in issues concerning the agricultural sector. Bindal congratulated the beneficiary farmers of Himachal Pradesh and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the financial support being extended to them.
He said measures aimed at ensuring the dignity, prosperity and economic security of farmers were important for strengthening the rural economy.
