RSS chief stresses India's traditions for societal welfare

Nagpur, Oct 7 (UNI) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday urged people to remain rooted in India's civilisational traditions and actively participate in efforts aimed at the welfare of society and humanity, asserting that collective responsibility was essential for building a prosperous and harmonious future.
Speaking after inaugurating a series of projects at the Gau-Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra in Deolapur near Nagpur during the birth centenary commemorations of former VHP president Ashok Singhal, Bhagwat said Bharat’s traditional values offered a path towards social stability, human welfare and global well-being.
He said that preserving life, safeguarding society and faith and contributing to the betterment of the world required Indians to live in accordance with their cultural ethos and strive for success through those values.
Every individual, he added, should make an effort to ensure a meaningful and fulfilling life for all.
Emphasising the need for greater public participation in social causes, Bhagwat observed that while many people were engaged in constructive activities, their numbers were still inadequate considering the size and needs of society.
He noted that people enthusiastically celebrate festivals and public events but often leave the responsibility of social service to others.
Society progresses, he said, only when individuals willingly undertake duties that contribute to the common good.
The RSS chief said that the achievements of society are never the result of isolated efforts but reflect the collective contribution of countless individuals working together.
Bhagwat remarked that great personalities can be remembered either through continuing the work they championed or by merely recalling their contributions.
He said many people recognise what needs to be done but still wait for someone else to take the initiative.
Highlighting the importance of sacrifice and perseverance, he said individuals who display dedication and endurance in their personal lives often inspire others to undertake difficult tasks and move forward with confidence. Genuine commitment, he added, ultimately yields meaningful rewards.
Referring to former RSS ideologue Moropant Pingley and late VHP leader Ashok Singhal, Bhagwat said both devoted their entire lives to national service and continue to command respect and admiration across the country.
He said that when Singhal and Pingley chose the path of selfless service, they were not widely known, but were driven by a firm conviction that their lives belonged not only to themselves but also to the nation. Guided by that resolve, they continued working tirelessly for society throughout their lives.
Bhagwat urged people to dedicate their abilities and resources to constructive causes without being preoccupied with personal gains or recognition. Work, he said, should always be guided by the interests of society and the nation.
Calling for personal commitment to public welfare, he said individuals should contribute whatever they can, whether through time, effort or resources.
Along with attending to personal responsibilities, people should devote attention to their communities, natural resources, forests, livestock and agriculture.
He said that if citizens adopted such a sense of duty and acted upon it, it would be the most meaningful tribute to great personalities who had dedicated themselves to the service of the nation.

Govt land allocated for park and playground in Malegaon
