SC defers Punjab govt’s plea against CBI probe into CM Mann’s OSD till tomorrow

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned till tomorrow the Punjab Government’s plea challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register a criminal case and investigate allegations of corruption linked to the office of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The matter was listed before a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu. As soon as the matter was taken up, Justice Datta said it would be heard tomorrow, noting that the file had reached Justice Nagu late.
When Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for the State, sought an interim order against precipitative action, Justice Datta said such an order could not be passed as Justice Nagu had not yet had an opportunity to study the files. The matter was accordingly listed for tomorrow.
The State has challenged the High Court’s Monday order through a Special Leave Petition (SLP). Singh had mentioned the matter before the CJI on Tuesday, claiming that the case was politically motivated and being pursued ahead of the State elections.
