Odisha CM inaugurates revamped Kalinga Studio with world-class film facilities

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday inaugurated the revamped and state-of-the-art Kalinga Studio here, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the state's film industry and providing filmmakers with world-class production facilities.
The revamped studio has been developed as a self-contained film production ecosystem with modern facilities for shooting, sound recording, dubbing, editing and post-production, aimed at meeting the evolving requirements of the digital era.
Inaugurating the facility, Mr Majhi said Kalinga Studio had been revived by keeping in view the glorious legacy of Odia cinema as well as the changing needs of the film industry.
He said Odia filmmakers would no longer need to travel to other states for technical work as the revamped studio had been equipped with several world-class facilities. More advanced facilities would also be added in the coming days, he said.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a dedicated archive and museum at the studio to preserve Odisha's rich cinematic heritage. Old films, posters, photographs and other historical documents related to Odia cinema would be preserved at the facility.
The new studio complex includes indoor shooting floors, a snow house, chroma floor, technology zone, sound recording and dubbing facilities besides editing and post-production infrastructure.
Recalling the history of Kalinga Studio and Odia cinema, Mr Majhi said landmark films such as Maa, Amadabata and Matira Manisha in the 1950s and 1960s had forged a close relationship between cinema and Odia literature.
Kalinga Studio was established in 1980 to facilitate film production in Odisha. However, its renovation became necessary over the years due to natural disasters and rapid technological advancements, he said.
Mr Majhi expressed confidence in the talent and creativity of Odisha's youth, saying the younger generation was making significant strides in acting, direction, cinematography, animation, sound design and storytelling for digital platforms.
He said the revamped Kalinga Studio would provide a major platform for young filmmakers to realise their creative aspirations and urged them to produce films based on original stories, folklore, history and Odisha's rich cultural heritage.
Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted the transformation of the studio and outlined its future roadmap.
He said the revamped Kalinga Studio had been developed as a state-of-the-art film studio complex capable of catering to the entire range of requirements, from film production to post-production.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also unveiled the new official portal of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC).
