Siddaramaiah sting row widens Cong rift

Bengaluru, Nov 3 (UNI) The defeat of the Congress in all four Karnataka Legislative Council constituencies has triggered an open confrontation within the ruling party, with former minister KN Rajanna blaming the sting operation controversy for damaging its electoral prospects, while Minister HC Balakrishna has demanded disciplinary action against Rajanna and his son over alleged anti-party activities.
The exchange has brought to the fore differences between supporters of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, with the two sides offering sharply contrasting explanations for the party's electoral setback. The NDA won all four seats, with the BJP securing three and the JD(S) one.
Rajanna, considered close to Siddaramaiah, argued that the controversy surrounding the alleged sting operation had affected the party's image, particularly among graduates and teachers who were among the electorate in the Legislative Council polls. He also pointed to the Congress's failure to win the South East Graduates' constituency despite having 26 MLAs in the region, saying the result indicated confusion within the party.
