Hyderabad, Oct 13 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday announced a 34 per cent profit-sharing bonus for Singareni Collieries employees for the Dussehra festival, with each eligible employee receiving Rs 1,53,912. Contract workers will receive Rs 5,500 each.
Addressing a press conference at Praja Bhavan, Bhatti said the decision was part of a series of welfare measures aimed at improving the lives and working conditions of Singareni employees and contract workers. He said the company’s post-tax profit stood at Rs 1,754 crore.
Among the major decisions, the government will resolve 250 to 300 pending dependent employment applications within 15 days and issue appointment orders to eligible candidates. Employment issues involving discrepancies in employees’ names will also be addressed, while workers dismissed for unauthorised absence during the COVID-19 pandemic will be given a one-time opportunity to rejoin service on a re-employment basis.
The government has also decided to introduce the ‘Nehru Housing Colonies’ initiative to fulfil workers’ long-standing dream of owning a house. The plan envisages providing permanent houses to employees by the time they retire and constructing new quarters in place of dilapidated D-Type quarters.
Bhatti said the government would upgrade Singareni area hospitals to corporate-level facilities by appointing specialist and super-specialist doctors and providing advanced emergency care, including cardiac treatment and catheterisation laboratory facilities. Free cancer screening and other medical check-ups will also be conducted in villages across Singareni’s operational districts.
Other measures include the payment of income tax on behalf of workers, regular distribution of safety kits every six months, improved drinking water and civic amenities in Singareni colonies, and solarisation of government schools, colleges, hostels, hospitals and other government buildings within the company’s jurisdiction.
The government has also approved Performance-Related Pay for Singareni officers. Further, the process of granting house sites and land titles to eligible beneficiaries on the remaining 1,250 acres of land returned to the Revenue Department will be completed within a month, he said.
Bhatti said the decisions were taken after consultations with ministers, legislators, labour unions and Singareni management, with a focus on workers’ welfare, housing, healthcare and employment security.
