Telangana: Congress Govt must release Jurala water to save crops: KTR

Hyderabad, Sep 21 (UNI) BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Monday demanded that the Telangana government immediately release water from the Jurala project to protect standing crops and negotiate with Karnataka for additional water to safeguard farmers in the downstream areas.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan here, Mr KTR claimed that farmers were being denied water despite its availability at Jurala.
He alleged that Telangana had utilised only 28 TMC out of the 248 TMC of Krishna water available to the state this year.
He demanded that the government switch on the pumps at Kannepalli and Narlapur and take steps to secure 10 TMC of water from Karnataka.
He alleged that the Congress government was playing politics with farmers' interests and warned that his party would launch a major agitation and blockade government offices if the government failed to change its approach.
KTR condemned the arrests of BRS leaders who went to extend support to farmers, saying such arrests would not suppress the issue.
He warned that the Congress government would be held responsible if even a single acre of crop under the Jurala project withered due to lack of water.
Reacting to the Congress government's allegations against the previous BRS regime, KTR said the ruling party should stop "theatrics" and respond to the BRS demand for a judicial inquiry into the assets of political leaders.
Referring to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's proposed visit to Sircilla, KTR questioned whether he would address the problems of handloom weavers, the implementation of Rythu Bandhu and allegations made in the Assembly regarding encroachment of 8,000 acres in Sircilla.
He demanded that the Chief Minister apologise if the allegations regarding the extent of encroachment were incorrect.
KTR also criticised the Congress government's policies and said farmers' interests should be placed above political considerations.
