Telangana Govt plans additional 60 mgd water supply to Hyderabad amid El Niño concerns

Hyderabad, Oct 13 (UNI) Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Tuesday said the government had drawn up measures to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to Hyderabad amid anticipated El Niño-related concerns, and urged citizens to conserve water.
At a review meeting at the State Secretariat, he said the government planned to mobilise an additional 60 million gallons per day (MGD) from various sources to meet the city’s requirements. Another 20 MGD is expected from Mallannasagar after completion of the pipeline project in November.
Jaju directed officials to prevent water wastage, reuse treated wastewater for non-domestic purposes and conduct a 60-day public awareness campaign. He said saving 20 per cent of water across GHMC, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporations could conserve around 80 MGD daily.
Alternative water sources have also been identified for Medak, Nizamabad, Kamareddy and Sangareddy districts, which depend on the Manjeera and Singur reservoirs. Officials were instructed to coordinate closely to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, according to an official statement.
