Tenthpin to more than double India workforce to 400, Bengaluru to drive 70 pc of growth

Bengaluru, Sept 17 (UNI) Switzerland-based Life Sciences consulting and technology firm Tenthpin is set to more than double its India workforce from around 175 to nearly 400 employees within the next 18 to 24 months, with Bengaluru expected to account for 60 to 70 per cent of the company's future growth in the country.
The expansion comes as Tenthpin on Thursday launched its Innovation Hub at Global Tech Park, Koramangala, positioning Bengaluru as a global centre for developing artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)-based solutions for the Life Sciences industry.
Tenthpin Partner and Managing Director India Sachin Bhure said the company was pursuing quality-led expansion, with specialised business-process and technology expertise being prioritised while hiring.
"Based on the business that we have, we can grow much faster, but we are also very selective while selecting people. We want people who have the right business-process expertise and technology understanding," Bhure said.
He said Bengaluru's talent pool and technology capabilities would drive a major share of the company's planned expansion, with the city expected to contribute 60 to 70 per cent of its growth in India.
Tenthpin Founder and Executive Board Member Michael Schmidt said India had become the company's biggest practice globally, with Bengaluru emerging as its largest location in the country.
The company has recorded an annual compound growth rate of around 25 to 30 per cent over the past decade and plans to continue growing at a similar pace, Schmidt said.
The Bengaluru Innovation Hub will focus on next-generation technologies including AI, IoMT, Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), intelligent clinical supply chains and cloud-based Life Sciences solutions, covering activities from early-stage research and process optimisation to manufacturing, scale-up and regulatory readiness.
Schmidt said the Bengaluru and Pune teams had already played a key role in co-developing Life Sciences solutions with SAP, including SAP Intelligent Clinical Supply Management and SAP Advanced Therapy Orchestration.
He said Tenthpin was working on technologies that could significantly transform the Life Sciences industry over the next five to 15 years, particularly in clinical development, research, quality and manufacturing.
"We are doing things currently in the industry that nobody else is doing," Schmidt said, while outlining the company's focus on emerging technologies.
The company is also developing solutions in areas including healthcare-provider platforms, mobility and research and development, with the products being co-developed with clients to address specific industry requirements.
"We don't want to invent something in the basement of an office without knowing if the clients need it," Schmidt said.
Addressing concerns that India's role could be limited to low-cost outsourcing, Schmidt said Tenthpin followed an integrated global operating model.
"We never look at India in a way that we have low-cost, black-work arbitration. No way," he said, adding that Indian employees work alongside colleagues in Europe, the US, Japan and other locations as part of a single global team.
He said India's availability of skilled talent enabled Tenthpin to undertake specialised work that could be difficult to replicate in some other locations.
Bhure said the company also aimed to help Indian Life Sciences companies become global players by leveraging local talent and partnerships.
On AI's impact on drug development, Schmidt said the technology should not be viewed as a solution that would automatically accelerate every stage of the drug-development process.
AI can assist in identifying potential drug candidates, consolidating and validating data and improving clinical development and manufacturing processes, but its effectiveness depends on data quality, mature business processes, appropriate systems and trained personnel, he said.
"The gap between what you can do with the technology available in the market and what companies are really able to do and digest based on their maturity is increasing every day," Schmidt said.
He said AI could potentially unlock significant value from historical clinical-trial and research data if such information was available in digital form.
On clinical-trial approvals, Schmidt said technology alone could not resolve regulatory delays, as regulatory authorities were dealing with growing volumes and complexity of applications, particularly for emerging therapies.
Tenthpin said it was working with around 20 to 25 partner companies in India and collaborating with universities to develop specialised talent. The company is currently hiring more university graduates in India than in any other location.
The Innovation Hub was inaugurated by Tenthpin Founder and Chairman of the Executive Board Juergen Bauer in the presence of Schmidt and Bhure.
Bauer said the Bengaluru expansion reflected the company's confidence in Indian talent and technology expertise and would support the development of high-value digital solutions for global Life Sciences clients.
Tenthpin said 16 of the world's top 20 pharmaceutical companies work with the company. Its major Indian delivery centres are located in Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad.
