Kannur, June 17 (UNI) A three-year-old child was swept away in a stream while playing near her house at Annassery in Kozhikode district, on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nakshathra, daughter of K Nikhil of Annassery. The body was fished out by the fire and rescue personnel about one kilometre away from the accident spot, and shifted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital for post-mortem.
The bodies of two missing persons, who were washed away in a stream and a river at Kasaragod and Kannur, were recovered by the local residents on Tuesday morning.
The body of Bhavani (65), wife of Ganesh Naik of Kudlu, near Kasaragod town, was recovered by locals around 7 am from a nearby stream. Bhavani was washed away yesterday evening, after she accidently slipped into the stream while walking in the arecanut plantation near her house.
The body was shifted to Kasaragod General hospital for post-mortem.
The body of Nishanth (40), of Atholi in Kozhikode district, was recovered from Chappath river near Kanichar- Iritty in Kannur district on Tuesday morning by Peravoor fire force personnel during a search operation. Nishanth and his wife arrived in Kannur on June 15 to attend the Kottiyoor Mahothsvam festival.
Nishanth was swept away while bathing at Bavali river as part of the custom of the Kottiyoor pilgrimage. The body was shifted to Thalassery general hospital for post-mortem.
The temporary made thadayana (barrier constructed to hold water) across the Baveli river collapsed on Sunday, following heavy downpour and overflowing water. Kelakam police said.
Search operations are going on to recover the body of Abhijith of Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, who was also feared to have washed away while bathing along with his friends at Bavali river during the Kottiyoor festival, on Sunday.
Five cows of Shyamala, a dairy farmer, were electrocuted at Kanaram vayal near Chapparapadavu-Taliparamba in Kannur district. The cows were tied in a cowshed, when they contacted a snapped electric cable, following heavy winds and rains.
Shyamala had ten cows, and the calves of the cows were tied outside the cowshed, so they escaped. Shyamala reached the cowshed in the morning and found cows lying on the ground without movement. She escaped after switching off the electric cable connected from their nearby house. Animal Husbandry department officials from Taliparamba reached the house of Shyamala to evaluate the cause of the death of cows.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts of North Malabar.
