Tiger Shroff firing case: Gangster's father a priest, family lives in rented house; accused shooter has criminal past

Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) The father of US-based gangster Anil Pandit, who claimed responsibility for the firing targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, is a priest whose family lives in rented accommodation in Haryana, while one of the suspected shooters had recently been released from jail in an illegal arms case, according to relatives and residents.
The revelations have brought the family backgrounds and alleged criminal histories of the suspects into focus, with two suspected shooters, including a 17-year-old boy, traced to Sonipat district in Haryana.
Pandit, originally from Rer Kalan village in Panipat district, allegedly operates from California and is associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He recently released an audio message claiming responsibility for the attack along with his associate Harman Sandhu.
His father, Krishan Lal, is a priest, while his mother, Pravesh, is a homemaker. The family has three children, with Anil being the eldest.
According to villagers, the family owned a small house measuring about two marlas in Rer Kalan but had no agricultural land. After selling the property, they moved to Assandh and subsequently to Karnal, where they have been living in a rented accommodation.
Residents said Pandit travelled to Dubai in 2022 for employment before allegedly entering the United States through an irregular migration route in 2024.
They claimed that his involvement in criminal activities began after he came into contact with members of the Lawrence Bishnoi network abroad.
Pandit reportedly faces 10 criminal cases in Panipat, while his father has allegedly been in jail for nearly a year in connection with matters linked to his son's activities.
Police suspect that Pandit has been coordinating extortion threats and attacks against celebrities, businessmen and other prominent individuals through associates operating in India.
Meanwhile, one of the suspected shooters, identified as Rehan from Sonipat, had previously been arrested in an illegal arms case in Gohana and was released on bail last month, his family said.
His aunt, Afsana, said Rehan had dropped out of school after Class Nine and moved to Gurugram to learn welding.
"He told us he was learning welding in Gurugram. We had no idea he was involved in such activities," she said.
According to his family, Rehan was scheduled to appear before a Sonipat court on October 31 in connection with the earlier arms case.
His mother alleged that her son had been misled and lured into participating in the attack.
"My son did not even know Mumbai. Someone misled him and offered him inducements to carry out this act. The police should take strict action against those responsible," she said.
She also expressed concern for the person targeted in the firing.
"We learnt about his arrest only today. I pray that the person who was attacked recovers quickly," she said.
Rehan's father, Rishuddin, said his son had gone to Gurugram to learn welding and had not returned home.
The second suspected shooter, a 17-year-old boy from Sonipat, had left home about a month ago following a dispute with his sister, his father said.
The teenager had discontinued his Class 12 studies and was learning tile and stone installation work before moving to Gohana to stay with an acquaintance.
"He must have been misled by someone. We never imagined he would become involved in such a serious incident," his father said.
The father also disclosed that his son's name had previously surfaced during an investigation into a motorcycle theft case in Punjab.
He said the teenager was the family's only son and had three sisters. The father, who works as a stone-breaking labourer, said the family was devastated by the developments.
In the purported audio message released after the Mumbai firing, Pandit identified himself as an associate of Lawrence Bishnoi and threatened members of the film industry, particularly those working with Salman Khan.
"This is the first and last warning," the speaker said in the recording.
The authenticity of the audio recording and the allegations against the suspects have not been independently established.
The case has once again drawn attention to the alleged use of young recruits from Haryana by organised criminal networks to carry out attacks and intimidation on behalf of gangsters operating from abroad.
