Trinamool demands UAPA against LoP Suvendu Adhikari over his alleged anti-national remark

Kolkata, June 18 (UNI) Launching a strong offensive against the BJP, the ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday slammed Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari for his "anti-national comments", in comparing "unrest-hit Bangladesh with the democratically-elected West Bengal government".
Addressing a media conference here, TMC leader Arup Chakraborty said, “It is unfortunate to see that the one who has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition by the BJP is making such statements that is a direct attack on India's federal structure.
"Making such a statement means they are engaging in anti-national statements. People like Suvendu
Adhikari give lectures on patriotism. He should be booked under UAPA for his remarks and the agencies should initiate an investigation against him.”
The ruling party also slammed Adhikari for allegedly distributing sweets following a Calcutta High Court order on the OBC lists.
The Calcutta high court on Tuesday ordered an interim stay on a state government notification published list of Other Backward Classes in the state, which was passed by the state assembly early last week.
"(The) BJP is an anti-OBC party...One must look at the plot being hatched by Opposition leaders here. We have faith in the judiciary but one must take note of who were the architects.
"The picture that is emerging is similar to what we have seen before. We have seen that in this High
Court, those who made big statements on recruitment stepped aside to become BJP MP. Now, they want to damage OBCs and create unrest,” said another TMC leader Kunal Ghosh. “Their politics is creating legal hurdles whereas we work towards resolving issues.” Ghosh added.
Elaborating on alleged "attacks against Bengali-speaking people in the BJP-ruled states", Arup Chakraborty added: “Bangladesh is going through a situation of turbulence and many anti-India statements have emerged from there.
"Calls are being given to split the seven sisters from our country. Those who are praising Bangladesh right now should be the ones who should be sent to Bangladesh instead of innocent Bengali-speaking people from Bengal. The Leader of Opposition has made anti-national statements. If he doesn’t apologise, people will teach him a lesson through the voting box.”
