Two detained after bus vandalised in Karnal parking dispute; police rule out hate crime

Karnal, Oct 18 (UNI) Karnal Police detained two men and seized their car after a parking dispute at a roadside dhaba escalated into violence, leaving a bus with shattered windows and a passenger injured, officials said on Sunday.
Police ruled out any communal or regional hatred behind the incident, saying preliminary investigations indicated that the confrontation arose from a dispute over parking between the bus and car occupants.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on October 17 near Divine Star Dhaba under Butana police station limits.
Police said a team rushed to the spot after receiving information about a confrontation between the drivers of a bus and a private car.
The officers found the bus with broken windowpanes and detained Mohit and Sawan, both residents of Karnal district, who were present at the scene with a white Maruti Baleno bearing registration number HR05BQ2412.
According to preliminary investigations, an argument over parking space escalated into a confrontation during which Mohit allegedly smashed the bus windows, injuring a passenger.
Police said no formal complaint was lodged immediately after the incident. The two sides reportedly reached a settlement, following which the bus resumed its journey towards Srinagar.
However, a case was subsequently registered at Butana police station on a complaint filed by the manager of Divine Star Hotel and Dhaba. Police also seized the Baleno car allegedly involved in the incident.
Clarifying reports circulating on social media, Karnal Police said the investigation had found no evidence suggesting that the incident was motivated by hatred towards people belonging to any particular state or region.
Police urged the public not to circulate unverified claims or misleading information about the incident.
Further investigation is underway, officials said.
