Two Phaltan Lawyers Caught Red-Handed in ACB Trap

Satara, Nov 7 ( UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught two lawyers red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 allegedly demanded in the name of a court clerk for helping a litigant in a judicial matter.
The action was carried out in the premises of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Phaltan.
The accused have been identified as Nitin Vilasrao Bhoite (45), a panel advocate appointed by the Phaltan Taluka Legal Services Committee, and private lawyer Azeem Salim Metkari (34). Both are residents of Phaltan.
According to the ACB, a criminal case had been registered against the complainant at Lonand police station, and the chargesheet in the matter had been filed before the Phaltan court. As the complainant was from a financially weak background, Bhoite had been appointed as his panel advocate through the Phaltan Taluka Legal Services Committee.
The complainant alleged that Bhoite demanded Rs 4,000, claiming that the amount had to be paid to a court clerk identified as Deshmukh to facilitate assistance in securing judicial bail.
Following the complaint lodged with the ACB on November 2, officials conducted a verification exercise in the presence of independent witnesses at the JMFC and Sessions Court premises in Phaltan.
During the verification, the demand for a bribe of Rs 4,000 in the name of the court clerk was confirmed.. During the operation, Bhoite allegedly instructed the complainant to hand over the bribe amount to Metkari. As soon as Metkari accepted Rs 4,000 in the presence of the witnesses, the ACB team caught him red-handed. UNI SP CDS
