Uganda names squad ahead of AFCON qualifiers

Kampala, Oct 30 (UNI) Uganda head coach Paul Put has named his squad for next month's two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Botswana, including veteran midfielder Khalid Aucho,
who recently announced his international retirement.

Uganda will host Botswana at Hoima City Stadium in western Uganda on November 14 before traveling for the return fixture three days later. Uganda leads Group H after opening its qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Tunisia and a 1-0 win over Libya.
Aucho, who plays for Ethiopian Premier League side Sidama Bunna FC, is expected to make a farewell appearance on home soil despite announcing his retirement from international football earlier this week.
The midfielder has made 77 appearances for Uganda over a 13-year international career, according to Xinhua.
"I have invited some players who did not feature in the first two matches and I believe we shall
have a very competitive team," Put told Xinhua on Wednesday.
Midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga and defender Herbert Bockhorn, both absent from Uganda's opening two qualifiers, have been recalled to the squad.
Uganda is taking part in qualifying despite having already secured a place at the 2027 tournament as co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The competition will be staged in East Africa for the first time.
