Union MoS Savitri Thakur begins Mizoram visit, reviews key women and child welfare facilities

Aizawl, May 28 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur began her official visit to Mizoram on Wednesday, focusing on the review of major state-run facilities supporting women and children in need.
She was received at Lengpui Airport by Mizoram Social Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii, along with Additional Secretary Lalnunhlua, Department Director Zoramthangi Chhangte, and senior government officials. Accompanying the Union Minister are her private secretary Nimisha Jha, statistical advisor Pankaj Shrivastava, additional private secretary Deepak Kumar, and assistant section officer Santosh Kumar.
In the afternoon, Thakur visited key facilities operated by the state’s Women and Child Development Department at Durtlang. These included Shakti Sadan, a shelter home for distressed women; the Observation Home for children in conflict with the law; the Special Home, designed to help rehabilitate such children; and the Place of Safety, which offers secure accommodation for minors above 16 involved in serious legal cases.
Following the site visits, a review meeting was convened at Aijal Club with Minister Lalrinpuii and other senior department officials to assess ongoing programmes and challenges.
Thakur’s itinerary includes visits to Khawzawl and Champhai on May 29, and a scheduled meeting with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on May 30. UNI ZS SSP

Alert sounded in Manipur following heavy rainfall

Imphal, May 30 (UNI) The Manipur government has sounded an Orange Alert Warning has been sounded in the state following heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.
The people have been advised to take precautions as the state could face windspeeds of 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph. The state is likely to receive more than 20 cms of heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
