UP: CM announces river embankment from Faizullaganj to Naimish in Lucknow

Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey from Faizullaganj to Naimish today to assess the devastation caused by the floods due to overflowing Gomti river.
He then visited the flood-affected people in the Bakshi Ka Talab area to enquire about their well-being and distribute relief materials. He also visited a health camp there and gathered information from doctors regarding medicines and medical arrangements.
He also met and interacted with flood victims seated on chairs to verify the ground reality regarding the relief materials, foodgrains, and medical facilities provided by the government. He also called children over and gave them chocolates.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over this flood crisis occurring in October. He stated that the construction of an embankment along the Gomti river could largely prevent such flood devastation. He directed the Principal Secretary of the Irrigation Department to conduct a survey of the riverbank from Faizullaganj to Naimish and initiate the construction of an embankment.
He emphasized that for villages situated outside the embankment, proper arrangements must be made to drain out rainwater. He instructed that if the river's water level rises after the embankment is built, accumulated water inside should not become a breeding ground for diseases; instead, pumping sets should be used to drain it out. He directed the Irrigation Department to prepare a proposal and commence work promptly so that this tragedy can be averted and the flood menace curbed in the future.
The Chief Minister informed the flood victims about a phone call he received this morning from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, sharing details of the Minister's concern regarding the floods. The Defence Minister had also discussed how the construction of an embankment from Faizullaganj to Naimish would aid in flood protection. In response, Yogi informed him that the government had approved the project and would soon advance the work by releasing the necessary funds. He noted that establishing such a robust system would ensure the embankment remains useful during every flood season. During the monsoon, river water will be prevented from entering this area, while local water will be pumped out into the river.
The Chief Minister noted that the LDA has constructed a 'Green Corridor' which serves both as a roadway and a safety measure; similar arrangements will be made for a pathway along the embankment.
He urged flood victims to face this crisis together. He directed that instead of sleeping in the open, people displaced from their villages should be accommodated in schools and marriage halls, where arrangements for hot meals, milk for children, nutritious food for pregnant women, and fodder (including straw and bran) for livestock should be ensured.
Emphasizing the safety and protection of livestock, the Chief Minister also directed that measures be taken to protect animals from water-borne diseases.
Interacting with flood victims at Akdariya Kala village, the Chief Minister stated that over 50 districts have experienced heavy rainfall in the last ten days, leading to a significant rise in the water levels of various rivers. He mentioned that while Lucknow also experienced heavy rain, the Gomti river's water level did not rise immediately; however, rainfall in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, and Nepal caused the water to flow downstream after five or six days, subsequently raising the Gomti's level. Consequently, areas stretching from Bakshi Ka Talab, Lucknow North, and Faizullaganj up to Naimish are grappling with waterlogging and flooding.
He assured the flood victims that the 'double-engine government' stands with them. He stated, "I am continuously monitoring and assessing the situation here. Today, I visited the affected areas to inspect relief operations. Our public representatives are actively engaged in relief and rescue work, providing all possible assistance to the victims alongside the administration."
The Chief Minister informed that adequate funds have been made available to the administration for relief and rescue operations. For every family in flood-submerged villages and neighborhoods, dry rations—including 10 kg of rice, 10 kg of flour, 10 kg of potatoes, 2 kg of *arhar* (split pigeon pea) dal, one litre of refined or mustard oil, salt, chili, spices, raincoats, buckets, puffed rice (*lai-bhuja*), candles, and matchboxes—have been made available.
The administration has also been directed to arrange fodder for livestock (such as cows, goats, buffaloes, and horses) and milk for small children, as well as to organize health and veterinary medical camps.
The Chief Minister stated that saving every single life is of utmost importance. Since the risk of snake and scorpion bites increases when water accumulates during the rainy season, anti-snake venom has been stocked at every health centre; anti-rabies injections are also available. Instructions have been issued to provide financial assistance of Rs ₹4 lakh to the families of those who lose their lives due to drowning or lightning strikes.
He directed the administration to conduct surveys regarding damaged houses (for coverage under Pradhan Mantri/Chief Minister housing schemes), loss of human life, loss of livestock, and crop damage, and to ensure immediate compensation for farmers so that the government's support is evident.
The Chief Minister instructed the police to ensure security in villages at night—especially when residents are away—through patrols by *chowkidars* (village watchmen), Home Guards, PRD personnel, and the police, and by lighting *petromax* lamps. Arrangements for *petromax* lamps or solar lights should be made in relief camps for the convenience of the people.
He assured disaster victims that they need not worry, as the government would continuously provide relief supplies. He reiterated that the government would extend all possible assistance during this time of crisis and wished everyone well-being and good health.
