SEBI investor awareness drive reaches Panjab University, students to get financial training

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Monday signed an agreement with Panjab University to expand financial literacy and investor awareness among students and educators across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during the opening of World Investor Week 2026 at Panjab University, coinciding with the rollout of the Securities and Exchange Board of India's nationwide investor awareness campaign, Project Jagrook.
The initiative, carrying the tagline “Samajh Se Investing Simple,” is aimed at helping investors better understand financial products, make informed investment decisions, and protect themselves against investment-related fraud.
The nationwide multimedia campaign is being rolled out in 13 languages across television, digital platforms, print, radio, outdoor advertising, and cinemas. It focuses on four messages. Understanding products before investing, choosing regulated investment products, starting early and staying invested, and remaining alert to investment fraud.
Project Jagrook brings together SEBI, AMFI, the National Institute of Securities Markets and market infrastructure institutions including stock exchanges and depositories.
Under the agreement, AMFI and Panjab University will introduce a “Train the Trainer” programme under which selected faculty members will undergo a two-tier training and certification process to become financial literacy trainers.
The trained faculty will subsequently conduct programmes for students across districts, with the initiative also seeking to help interested students pursue advanced NISM certifications and obtain an AMFI Registration Number, or ARN, providing a potential route to work as mutual fund distributors.
“Financial literacy is the foundation of a resilient and inclusive investor base,” AMFI Chairman Sundeep Sikka said.
“Our partnership with Panjab University, in line with SEBI's Project Jagrook and its message of ‘Samajh Se Investing Simple’, will help build a trained pool of educators who can take investor awareness to students and communities across the region.”
AMFI Chief Executive Venkat Chalasani said the programme was designed to combine financial education with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for students interested in the mutual fund industry.
“By equipping faculty as certified trainers and enabling interested students to pursue careers as mutual fund distributors, we seek to combine financial awareness with livelihood opportunities,” Chalasani said.
AMFI and Panjab University will also explore expanding the partnership through a joint certificate course, research collaboration, summer internships and campus placements.
Meena Sharma, chairperson of Panjab University's University Business School, said the partnership would give faculty members and students access to industry-recognised certifications and practical exposure to the investment ecosystem.
“It will give our faculty and students access to industry-recognised certifications and practical exposure to the investment ecosystem, and help them become informed, responsible participants in the financial markets,” Sharma said.
