Around 150 Bangladeshis deported from Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir authorities on Monday deported around 150 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally in the union Territory, flying them out from Kashmir to Bagdogra in West Bengal on a special Indian Air Force aircraft.
Officials said the deportees were taken to Bagdogra, where they were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for further repatriation to Bangladesh.
The authorities had detained the individuals in separate incidents, with police sources saying several of them were apprehended during raids conducted at different locations across Kashmir.
Many of those deported were working in the informal sector, including as construction labourers.
“The operation is being carried out in coordination with central agencies,” an official said.
It is learnt that that another group of Bangladeshi nationals is likely to be deported in coming days.
The latest action against Bangladeshi nationals follows a wider exercise to assess demographic changes in Border States.
A four-member committee constituted by the Centre and headed by retired Justice Prabhakar Navlekar visited Jammu in August to examine demographic changes, including those allegedly linked to illegal immigration.
According to sources that data presented to the panel showed that over 6000 Rohingyas and only 500 Bangladeshis are currently residing in J&K.
