UP CM renames Bhadohi as Sant Ravidas Nagar

Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Oct 4 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday renamed the Bhadohi district as Sant Ravidas Nagar. At the 50th India Carpet Expo, he announced that Bhadohi will now be known as "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi." The Chief Minister had previously announced in Varanasi that Bhadohi would be renamed "Sant Ravidas Nagar" on July 29.
This is the fifth time in 32 years that Bhadohi has been renamed. Referring to the message delivered by Saint Ravidas nearly 600 years ago, Yogi said that he had wished for a kingdom where everyone would have food and live together without discrimination. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, more than 800 million people in the country are receiving free rations.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his announcement to rename Bhadohi as "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi" will preserve the identity of Saint Ravidas and the name "Bhadohi" in the district's name. This is being seen as a link to the district's history and social dynamics.
On June 30, 1994, the Mulayam Singh Yadav government carved out Bhadohi from Varanasi to become a new district.
On December 4, 1997, the Mayawati government renamed it "Sant Ravidas Nagar." In 2014, the Akhilesh Yadav government again changed the name to "Bhadohi."
Now, the Yogi government has proposed combining the two names to become "Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi." According to the district administration's history, the name "Bhadohi" is said to be associated with the Rajbhar kingdom that once ruled here. The name Sant Ravidas is also associated with the faith and respect of the Dalit community. UNI MBD SAS
