Vijayendra demands probe into sting operation, says guilty must face action regardless of rank

Chitradurga, Oct 17 (UNI) BJP Karnataka president Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Saturday demanded a comprehensive investigation into the sting operation controversy, insisting that those responsible must face legal action irrespective of their position and that the case be taken to its logical conclusion.
Taking aim at the state government over the controversy, Vijayendra said Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had himself raised the issue at a Cabinet meeting, making it necessary for the government to ensure a proper investigation rather than allow the matter to remain a political flashpoint.
“There can be no hit-and-run in this matter. Everyone knows who the father of the sting operation is. There should be a proper investigation into the case. Whoever the culprits are, no matter how high their position, action should be taken according to the law,” he told reporters here.
Vijayendra’s demand puts the focus on the government’s handling of the controversy, with the BJP leader calling for accountability and a legally conclusive investigation.
On the JD(S) decision to pursue the matter independently, he said the regional party was free to follow its own course and that the BJP would decide its next steps separately.
Vijayendra also targeted the Congress leadership, alleging that statements by its leaders indicated financial assistance was being extended to various organisations. He accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to create political instability following electoral defeats and said such efforts would not succeed.
Turning to the Mysuru Dasara arrangements, the BJP leader criticised the alleged mismanagement at the cattle fair, citing inadequate fodder for cattle and insufficient food arrangements for farmers and women visitors.
He said the reported lapses had caused inconvenience and expressed dissatisfaction over the arrangements at the annual festival.
Vijayendra extended the BJP’s support to the ongoing agitation and padayatra by sugarcane growers, urging the state government to address their grievances and take a favourable decision on their demand for an additional Rs 1,000 per tonne of sugarcane.
He said the responsibility for resolving the farmers’ concerns rested with both the Centre and the state government, and called on the latter to fix an appropriate State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane.
Vijayendra said union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan had held discussions with farmer representatives and that a committee had been constituted to examine their concerns. The committee would hear the farmers after Dasara, he added.
He also called for a comprehensive examination of allegations that sugar factories were underweighing sugarcane, saying the complaints should be investigated and farmers given justice.
Accusing the state government of failing to adequately address agricultural distress, Vijayendra said that despite the severe drought situation, the government had announced compensation of only Rs 2,500 for farmers.
On the proposed by-election to the Hiriyur Assembly constituency, Vijayendra said the issue had been discussed at the BJP’s central core committee meeting.
The names of potential candidates would be forwarded to the party’s Central Election Committee, he said, adding that a decision on whether the BJP or its alliance partner JD(S) would contest the seat would be taken after consultations between the alliance partners and their respective leaderships.
Earlier, Vijayendra participated in the ‘Vachana Jhankara’ programme organised as part of the Sharana Sanskriti Utsava at Murugha Math in Chitradurga.
