Woman survives suicide bid after crocodile attack in Karnataka

Mangaluru, Nov 6 (UNI) A crocodile attack turned into an unlikely rescue for a 38-year-old woman who allegedly jumped into the Kumaradhara river in an attempt to end her life, only to be saved after the reptile bit her and her cries for help alerted people nearby.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night near the Kumaradhara bridge at Kukke Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada district, police said. The woman, reportedly a resident of Udupi district, had entered the river in an alleged suicide attempt when she was attacked by a crocodile.
The crocodile bit her, leaving her injured. However, the unexpected attack prompted her to scream for help, drawing the attention of employees of a nearby lodge. They alerted the police and local residents, who rushed to the spot and managed to pull her out of the river.
The woman was subsequently shifted for medical attention and provided first aid. Her injuries were reported to be minor. She was later reunited with her family after receiving counselling.
The incident has drawn attention to the presence of crocodiles in the Kumaradhara river, which flows through the pilgrimage town of Kukke Subrahmanya, a popular destination in the region.
The unusual sequence of events turned what could have been a tragedy into a rescue, with the crocodile attack inadvertently bringing the woman to the attention of people who could save her.
Police indicated that no case had been registered in connection with the incident.
