New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) To ensure quality and safety of food products during the festive season, the Delhi government’s Food Safety Department has been conducting targeted inspections of stores advertising heavy discounts on social media, and so far 322 kg of unsafe ghee has been seized.
Department teams inspected shops promoting offers such as ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ and discounts of up to 60 per cent through social media reels.
The drive aims to check compliance with food safety standards and prevent the sale of unsafe, substandard, expired or incorrectly labelled food products.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government is committed to ensuring that residents of the national capital have access to safe food that meets prescribed standards and to effectively curbing irregularities such as adulteration, substandard quality, the sale of expired products and incorrect labelling.
According to officials, during the recent inspections at stores in Vikaspuri, the Food Safety Department team collected five enforcement samples of ghee from different brands and five surveillance samples of other food products.
A total of 75.53 litres of ghee was seized, and similarly, samples were collected from across different areas with dense population in West Delhi.
The findings recorded during the inspections will be reviewed along with the laboratory test reports before further action is taken, the department said.
The samples have been sent to the state laboratory for testing, while the team also collected samples of makhana and turmeric powder from a store in Lajpat Nagar, Rithala, while samples of two varieties of biscuits, soft candy and sugar-based candy were also collected form different locations.

Food safety is directly linked to public health. The government is committed to ensuring that Delhi residents have access to safe food that meets prescribed standards and to effectively curbing irregularities such as adulteration, substandard quality, the sale of expired products and incorrect labelling.
