UP: BSP chief Mayawati expressed concern over political acrimony and rhetoric

Lucknow, Oct 27 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati expressed concern over the growing acrimony, mutual distrust, and personal comments made by leaders in the country's politics.
She said that the level of political rhetoric is steadily declining, reaching the level of unparliamentary, indecent, insulting, casteist, and violent rhetoric. This is a matter of concern for the dignity and honour of the country.
Mayawati, in a series of posts on the social media platform 'X' on Tuesday, said that while differences between political parties and leaders are natural, maintaining mutual respect is essential.
Lack of proper respect for each other, even among those at the highest levels, will lead to offensive and toxic politics. She said that such politics should not be encouraged in any way.
The BSP chief warned that the growing trend of politics based on narrow and anti-poor interests could undermine people's trust in the political system. This would harm both the country and the public interest. She appealed to all political parties to seriously reconsider their behavior and rhetoric.
Referring to questions raised about corruption at the government level and the electoral process, Mayawati said that the public is already quite restless.
In such an environment, the infighting and accusations among leaders are further complicating the situation.
She said that the public's priority is to solve serious problems like rising poverty, unemployment, and inflation in the country. Therefore, instead of getting embroiled in mutual disputes, political parties and their leaders should focus on these issues, which directly impact the lives of the common people.
The BSP president said that the increasing trend of indecent remarks and statements among all parties and their leaders is making the political environment more bitter and toxic. Calling this inappropriate, she said that all concerned parties should pay serious attention to this.
Mayawati's statement is being seen in the context of the escalating war of words between political parties.
In her message, she urged leaders to use restrained language, adhere to democratic norms, and prioritise the basic problems of the people.
