'P4' programme is meant for alleviation of poverty: AP CM

Bapatla, Apr 1 (UNI) Making it clear that the 'P4' programme has been brought in only for poverty alleviation, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said that the revenue generated through wealth creation will be distributed to the poor.

Participating in the 'Pedala Sevalo' (In the service of the poor) programme at Gollapalem village of Parchur Assembly segment in Bapatla district, the Chief Minister said that as far as he is concerned people are first and anything comes only later.
Naidu personally visited the houses to distribute pensions to the beneficiaries and inquired about the condition of their families.

Later, addressing a huge gathering as part of Praja Vedika, he said that some persons are claiming that pressing buttons itself is something great but the pensions now being distributed are equal to the buttons they had pressed.
The Chief Minister called upon the people to confront those who are making unnecessary criticism.

Observing that the TDP is so strong till now solely because of the support of the Backward Classes (BCs), Chandrababu termed the BCs as the backbone of the party. For 43-long-years, it was the BCs who carried the TDP flag and did not yield to the threats, Naidu said.
"I personally take the responsibility to promote the BCs financially, socially and politically who always solidly stood by the TDP," he said.

The Chief Minister said that the state got totally destroyed by the previous regime and it inherited Rs 10 lakh crore debts. Stating that he is personally taking part in the distribution of pensions every month only to lead the programme personally, he said that 28 various kinds of pensions are being distributed to 63 lakh beneficiaries spending Rs 33,100 crore per annum.
Andhra Pradesh is the only State in the whole country which is spending this much amount, he added.

There are 93.324 beneficiaries who are receiving pension once in two months, Naidu said and maintained that if payment of the pension for these people is discontinued the state can save Rs 74 crore but the amount is being paid to them only with the sole aim of providing financial security to them.

The works in the capital city of Amaravati have been revived, the Chief Minister said and expressed confidence that the State Government will certainly get the past glory to Amaravati. The works of Polavaram, which is the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh are going on at a fast pace and the interlinking of rivers will be done by 2027 after completion of the project, he said.
