Ahmedabad, Apr 8 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar has said the Congress is undertaking a historic nationwide organisational revamp under the leadership of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, with the focus squarely on grassroots empowerment.
Speaking at the venue of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and All India Congress Committee (AICC) session here on Monday, Shivakumar declared that the party has marked the current year as "the year of organisation" aimed at rebuilding the Congress from the block level upwards.
"We are working out a comprehensive strategy to revitalise the party structure across the country. Our focus is on strengthening the cadre and putting the Congress back in touch with the people’s real issues," he told reporters.
Shivakumar said the party had already held a key meeting of District Congress Presidents in Delhi, during which various suggestions were received. These inputs, he said, are now being deliberated upon at the national level. "This will be a turning point for the Congress Party," he asserted.
The AICC session also coincides with the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership in the Congress. "This is a moment of reflection and rededication. Gandhiji gave us our freedom, and now we must give the people their voice," Shivakumar said.
Welcoming the BJP’s Janakrosh Yatra in Karnataka as a democratic expression of dissent, Shivakumar turned the spotlight back on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of burdening ordinary citizens with soaring prices.
"Let them raise their voice — the people should indeed express their anger. But it is the BJP government that must answer for the relentless hikes in diesel, petrol, and essential commodities," he said, adding that the real Janakrosh is against the BJP.
With the Congress looking to sharpen its organisational machinery and reconnect with its base, the Ahmedabad session is being viewed as a crucial inflection point in the party’s political course.
