Arunachal Cabinet approves age relaxation, police cadre reforms, & 280 new Govt posts

Itanagar, Apr 7 (UNI) In a significant move aimed at enhancing recruitment opportunities and streamlining administrative processes, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, convened this afternoon and approved several key proposals spanning governance and police services.
The Cabinet approved ‘One Time Relaxation’ in the prescribed upper age limit for direct recruitment. This relaxation applies to candidates who were affected by the cancellation of previous vacancy notifications (issued prior to 2024) by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), subject to prescribed conditions.
This decision is set to provide relief and renewed opportunity to many aspirants who would otherwise have been rendered ineligible due to age constraints.
Further, the Cabinet approved the proposal for framing of a Common Examination Scheme for conducting direct recruitment to the posts of Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineers under Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The APPSC, in consultation with the respective departments, shall finalise the examination syllabus. The move is expected to fast-track the recruitment process and ensure transparency and consistency.
The cabinet also gave its nod for notification of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (4th Amendment) Rules, 2025, amending the APPS Rules, 1989, to streamline cadre management, promotions, and rank structures in the Arunachal Pradesh Police.
The amendment introduces a Common Cadre structure for officers of Civil Police, IRBn and AAPBn, classifying all grades - Entry Grade, Grade-I, Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) and Special Grade—as Group 'A' Gazetted posts.
Further, the Cabinet approved the creation of 280 posts in the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Department in different categories. This would not only meet the aspiration of long-serving officials and pave the way for new recruitments but also help in ensuring efficient and smooth functioning of the department.
Additionally, a presentation was made by the Department of Finance, Planning and Investment regarding the Stat's proposed memorandum to be submitted to the 16th Finance Commission. The Cabinet approved the draft memorandum after a thorough deliberation.
