Bandi Sanjay seeks special fund for Ambedkar stadium Under Khelo India

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday urged Union Minister for Labour, Employment, and Sports Affairs Mansukh Mandaviya to allocate special funds for the development of sports facilities at Dr B R Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar district under the Khelo India scheme.
Accompanied by former Karimnagar Mayor Yadagiri Sunil Rao and Satavahana University Vice Chancellor Professor Umesh Kumar, Bandi Sanjay visited Delhi to discuss the matter and submitted a formal memorandum to the Union Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Bandi Sanjay highlighted Karimnagar’s prominence in education and sports, emphasising that the district has produced distinguished athletes, including Arjuna Awardee Madasu Srinivasa Rao.
He stated, “Karimnagar has carved a niche in the field of sports. Given its achievements, it is essential to enhance sports infrastructure in the region. Therefore, sufficient funds should be allocated for the development of Ambedkar Stadium through Khelo India or other central government schemes.”
The delegation also briefed Mandaviya on the existing sports facilities at Ambedkar Stadium. Sanjay recalled that 22.20 acres of land had been allocated for the multi-purpose stadium in 1986, with initial development works such as leveling, galleries, and an 8-lane 400-meter athletics track being carried out between 1998-2000 with assistance from MP LAD funds, Singareni Collieries, NTPC, and private organizations. However, with a growing number of athletes using the facility, the current clay track has become a cause for concern, leading to frequent injuries.
To address these challenges, Bandi Sanjay proposed several key upgrades, including replacing the existing 8-lane clay track with a modern synthetic athletics track, installing floodlights to facilitate nighttime training, and setting up canopies over open galleries to provide shelter for athletes and spectators.
He emphasised that improving the stadium’s infrastructure would create more opportunities for Karimnagar’s athletes to compete at national and international levels, bringing honour to the country, an official statement said.
