BJP set to lead all three Mizoram autonomous councils

Aizawl, May 4 (UNI) With the installation of a new executive committee in the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) led by a BJP member, the saffron party is poised to head all three autonomous district councils in Mizoram, state BJP president Vanlalhmuaka said on Sunday.
Vanlalhmuaka said BJP MDC N. Zangura, who was appointed chief executive member (CEM) of the LADC by Governor Lt. Gen. VK Singh (Retd.), is expected to be sworn in on Tuesday. As per the governor’s directive, Zangura must prove his majority on the council floor within 10 days of his appointment on April 30.
“We have already formed executive committees in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) and the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). With LADC coming under a BJP-led coalition, all three autonomous district councils in Mizoram will now have BJP at the helm,” Vanlalhmuaka said.
He clarified that the new LADC executive will be a coalition body, led by the BJP under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) banner. The UDA consists of 11 MDCs from the Mizo National Front (MNF), two BJP MDCs, and is supported externally by the lone Congress MDC, C. Lalmuanthanga.
The UDA staked its claim to form the next executive committee after the 13 MDCs, including the Congress member, met the governor at Raj Bhavan on April 23. Zangura, as their chosen leader, was appointed CEM on April 30.
Vanlalhmuaka expressed confidence that the BJP’s emphasis on development will resonate with the people of Mizoram. “Now that all three autonomous district councils are under BJP-led administrations, we will focus on real development in these areas,” he said.
He added that the success of the BJP in the councils could pave the way for broader political gains. “We are hopeful that the people of Mizoram will recognise our commitment to progress and give us the mandate in the 2028 state assembly elections,” he said. UNI ZS SSP
