Chirag may contest Bihar Assembly elections from general seat: LJP

Patna, June 1 (UNI) Union Minister Chirag Paswan, President of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), a constituent unit of the NDA, was mulling over contesting the next assembly elections of Bihar from any general seat.
LJP MP from Jamui and brother-in-law of Paswan, Arun Bharti gave ample indications in this regard through his social media post on X on Sunday. Paswan should contest from a general (unreserved) seat rather than a reserved one, hinted Bharti.
Bharti stated that Bihar is the centre of Paswan's politics who is striving for his vision of "Bihar First, Bihari First" and added that the LJP leader should raise his voice from the assembly election.
Bharti further said that the party has given Paswan a formal proposal in the state executive meeting for coming to Bihar for playing a larger role on a wider canvas.
The LJP MP said that his party was conducting a survey and based on the reports Paswan will seriously consider to come to Bihar for contesting elections.
He said Paswan's politics was Bihar centric and was focusing on the state to which he belonged.
Bharti emphasised that Paswan will contest from a general category seat, not a reserved one, however he was yet to choose the seat for contesting the electoral battle of the state due in October- November this year. Dubbing Paswan as hope of entire Bihar, not just any particular community, Bharti said that it is the sentiments of the party workers who wish Paswan to contest assembly elections from a general and not a reserved seat. The party workers want Chirag to play a larger role in the state politics.
Paswan had walked out of the NDA during the 2020 assembly polls, and his party had entered the election all alone. Paswan had fielded candidates on 143 Assembly seats due to his differences with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, whose party, JDU was the main alliance partner of the NDA. Paswan' s decision to contest elections alone was one of the prime factors for the poor electoral performance of JD(U)
which was reduced to a decidedly junior status to the BJP.
The indications of Bharti regarding Chirag Paswan contemplating contesting assembly elections, that too from a general seat as he does not confine himself to a particular community, were being considered as pressure tactics for the seat sharing in the NDA, talks for which were yet to begin.
Bharti said that the LJP (Ram Vilas) was likely to soon call a meeting of its executive members to formalise a proposal urging Chirag Paswan to contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
However , in the political corridors, it is being viewed as muscle-flexing by the important alliance partner of the BJP-led NDA for increasing bargaining capacity ahead of seat-sharing talks.
